Fishy Field Trip
Fishy Field Trip Reviews: Ms. Frizzle’s class has been working for days to prepare presentations for the school’s big assembly for Ocean Awareness. It instructs students on “how important it is to respect how everything in nature works together” and “that things are not always what they seem.” Tim and his classmates learn so much about oceanic life around corral reefs. This book should be used when teaching an ocean unit in elementary school.
Fishy Field Trip Description: When their class project for Ocean Awareness Day falls into Ms. Frizzle’s fish tank, Tim and his classmates board the Magic School Bus with their teacher for a real underwater adventure.
Secondary School Teaching
Secondary School Teaching Reviews: In my first year of teaching and enrolled full time in college I have very little time to wrestle with textbooks! I found this book to be very detailed for the amount of material it covers. The worksheets aren’t essential, but could be good for someone who is not in a classroom every day. Good coverage addressing the eternal question of depth vs. breadth, and it does well enough at both!
Secondary School Teaching Reviews: The book is a decent resource, covering planning, styles of instruction, and assessment. It includes useful exercises that send students into the educational community to get a closer look at how things are done in local schools.
One Great Game
One Great Game Reviews: One Great Game is an interesting chronicle for those who like high school football. The analysis of the longest winning streak in history in any sport would be enough in itself. Indeed the game account seems less important than discourse on social and economic differences between the featured schools and their students. Though the writing is ponderous at times, I learned a lot about the nature of high schools in other states for instance most of the perennial powerhouse football teams are from private schools. The character sketches of players and coaches is good, but I still would like to know how to pronounce Bob Ladouceur’s name.
The Last Game
The Last Game Reviews: “The Last Game” relates a rich human story while taking us into the surprisingly ruthless, disciplined world of high school football. This riveting, highly personal film fascinates on several levels: the brutal sense of competition felt even at the high school level; the senior Pettine’s struggle to decide whether it’s time to close his admirable run as coach; and finally, the unusual, awkward dynamic of father and son going head to head as rival coaches. Surprisingly gripping and intense, “The Last Game” is one match-up you won’t soon forget.
The Last Game Reviews: This entertaining documentary really fits the bill for football fans and for the families who follow and support high school athletes. It’s the inside story of an entire season of championship football in Eastern PA. Infrequently, weak reality TV camera work zeroes in too much on the less than-inspiring star player. But overall, the story merits its current popularity in a medium thin on family choices.
Math Games for Middle School
Math Games for Middle School Reviews: I knew the late Mario Salvadori and have been a fan of his work. This is obviously a hack job with some of his ideas, then his name slapped on the cover to make it saleable. This book is a train wreck: old problems, no math games to speak of, and it reads like an abbreviated middle school textbook. This is a terrible book and an insult to Mr. Salvadori’s memory.
Math Games for Middle School Reviews: This book reminds me a bit of “The Big Book of Tell Me Why” that children love to read. I am a home schooling mom, not a math teacher. I am home schooling an accelerated second grader. For our “normal” math class work, we are use Singapore Math and the “Key To” series. Terms are also defined. We are only on the first chapter and my son only grasps some of the layers of the onion, but we are both enjoying the book. Our country relies too much on formulas and not enough on understanding. This book would bring joy to a class as an opening warm up to get them thinking.
Old School Soul Party Live
Old School Soul Party Live Reviews: This music video collection is awesome and brought back so many memories from back in the day. Back in time when artists actually dressed up on stage and presented themselves in a classy way. No sagging pants, guys holding themselves just walking around the stage like their mad at somebody. Today’s music is so angry and vulgar. These old school folks really knew how to croon and make a person feel good. And they had stage presence and great coordination. Buy this video, invite your friends and have a good old school party! Maybe even karaoke to the tunes.
Old School Soul Party Live Reviews: My dad had me buy this for him and when I started watching it with him, I was blown away. I didn’t realize how many songs I recognized. I in turn was happy that he made me get this because it truly is wonderful. My dad watched it everyday for a week or two! That’s how much he loves it.
Middle School Advantage 2008
Middle School Advantage 2008 Reviews: Am I out of date or is this program not for middle school? First, the work that was being asked of my daughter she did in elementary school, then I was not been able to find a way to get to the level she was working at without going step by step starting at the first level and it is like pulling teeth to get her to work on the lower levels. She is going into 7th grade and I wanted her to review some 6th grade work and learn more this summer but that probably won’t happen. There should be some way to get to an appropriate level but without a manual I have not been able to find it. This program is not very user friendly.
Middle School Success Deluxe
Middle School Success Deluxe Reviews: This educational software will be helpful to any child’s knowledge, BUT be ready to invest time into “dowloading” software patches from the Topics Entertainment website. I guess there were some software difficiencies in the CDs, so you have to invest some time into fixing these deficiencies. Its pretty easy, but don’t expect to download the software into your computer and be able to run all the programs.
Middle School Success Deluxe Reviews: I worked on this product, I voice the character of “madison”. Any company that is willing wo work with new, young talent gets an A+ in my book. And, while we were reading the scripts, a lot of teh math that I was teaching, i didn’t actually understand, since it was a cold read. The writing was so good that even without having heard the terms before or having the benefit of the visuals that come with the program, i learned the math. in fact, one of the concepts was introduced in my math class about a month later, and I already understood it all and eventually aced the test, just from two hours of work on that particular lesson.
Harry Potter Interactive DVD Game
Harry Potter Interactive DVD Game Reviews: I’ve tried the game on the DVD player and in the computer. Our DVD player is 6 years old, so I thought maybe it wasn’t “modern” enough. Then I switched to the computer, and the same problem with the arrows not working at all, as another reviewer mentioned. I’m going to try it on my newer DVD player, but if that doesn’t work I’m going to return it.
Harry Potter Interactive DVD Game Reviews: Although the graphics and concept are good, the responsiveness to the arrow keys makes progressing through the game nearly impossible. This is the worse game I’ve ever played on a DVD. It’s certainly not worth the money.
Pretend and Play School Teacher Supplies
Pretend and Play School Teacher Supplies Reviews: When my daughter opened this gift she was so excited because she wanted it so bad. She is always playing school so while pretending to be a teacher she is also learning herself.
